I went to Camp Tagola from 1954 to l962, the summer before my freshman year at UPenn. Loved the whole schmeer. Got to sing the Ezio Pinza role in "South Pacific" (Sam Arbitol was the theater director in the mid-l950s), and was one of the two Peter Pans (the other, a girl Peter). Tad Gwritzman, a Brooklyn College tennis player, showed me how to serve the ball fast-as-hell. I loved every sport and was a better than average athlete. Snuck out of camp to candy store via a back trail. Shot two bulls-eyes my first time at the rifle range. Mucked around with Cynthia on that rifle range, at night,my first girlfriend. She was l5, I was l7. She wasn't a camper; her family summered on Sackett Lake. Saw "Psycho" in Monticello on my day off from my counselor job (1961, I think). Announced the night basketball games, including ones with college star Mickey Winograd (Duquesne). Nasty boat crash with Donny, my pal in summer l961. Cynthia bumped her head. Last year I discovered that a business colleague of mine, now retired, had dated the very same Cynthia. Was a color war lieutenant or general (I can't recall). Most of my Jewish education comes from the Friday and Saturday services -- white tee shirts the dress code. Loved to lay on the big rock on the boy's campus after we put the little kids to bed, and look up at the stars above the Catskills. In 1988, I wrote a piece resonating with summer camp in August, which was published in the Boston Globe and reprinted, in part, in l989 in Readers Digest. Freddy Pfennig. Ronnie Penn (great athlete). My brother Richard and I went to camp in the late 50's and 60's, I do not know what happened to Ann Wenig, she was in my bunk. There is a picture of me with my hand on the fence in one of the albums, number 34 I think, just me alone. I lived in the Guest House my last yaer and roomed with Vivian Epstein. Someone tell me what the names were of the two girls at the end of the hall on the second floor- one with blond hair and the other dark, always coloring it.We lived in Forest Hills, New York.
